FAQ
Common questions
- Do I need root?
- Yes, with Magisk. SignalDeck talks to the radio hardware directly, which needs root.
- Will it break my phone's own radio app?
- No. The stock app is switched off while SignalDeck owns the radio and comes back when SignalDeck lets go.
- Do I need a licence?
- To transmit on ham bands, yes. Listening needs none in most countries. The app does not check this for you.
- Does it work on my phone?
- See the supported phones. If yours is not listed, run the Device report in the app and send it. Supported phones
- Is it really free?
- Yes. It is open source under the GNU GPL v3 or later, with no ads, no accounts and no tracking.
- Can it change the radio's firmware?
- Yes, as an advanced, optional feature. The factory image is kept as a backup. Module firmware
- Where do I get help?
- Start with the guide on this page or in the app. Then ask in GitHub Discussions, or report a bug in Issues. Community
